In the chemical industry, standard valves quickly reach their limits\u2014especially when multiple extreme conditions arise simultaneously. That was exactly the case in a recent customer project. <\/p>

The Challenge<\/h4>

The process window encompasses two contrasting operating conditions: high pressure at low temperatures (70 bar \/ 50 \u00b0C) and high temperatures at low pressure (300 \u00b0C \/ 1 bar). The medium used is terephthalic acid (30%)\u2014a key raw material for PET production that is both corrosive and prone to scaling. Leaks are not an option in this process. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The Solution<\/h4>\n\n

\n A bottom-discharge ball valve<\/a> with a metal sealing system and a trunnion-mounted ball is used. The metal seal retains its shape even at extreme temperatures and with aggressive media\u2014unlike elastomers. The trunnion-mounted ball absorbs mechanical loads directly via bearings, not via the seal seats, which minimizes wear and ensures a long service life.\n<\/p>\n\n

\n The valve is designed for pressures up to 160 bar and temperatures from \u221210 \u00b0C to +300 \u00b0C. In terms of materials, a 1.4980 (heat-resistant high-strength) actuator shaft, carbon bearings, Inconel coil springs, and FFKM-HT O-rings ensure chemical and thermal resistance across the entire operating range.\n<\/p>\n\n

Conclusion<\/h4>\n\n

\n This project demonstrates what is possible when a valve is consistently designed for the process\u2014rather than the other way around.
